Isabel Toledo : 2015

Old paint on a canvas, as it ages, sometimes becomes transparent. When that happens it is possible, in some pictures, to see the original lines: a tree will show through a woman’s dress, a child makes way for a dog, a large boat is no longer on an open sea. That is called pentimento because the painter “repented,” changed his mind. Perhaps it would be as well to say that the old conception, replaced by a later choice, is a way of seeing and then seeing again. That is all I mean about the people in this book. The paint has aged and I wanted to see what was there for me once, what is there for me now.

Lillian Hellman, Pentimento

Mexican actress, writer, director, and producer. Founder in conjunction with Carlos López Tavera of the Pentimento theatre company.

Graduate from the Centro Universitario de Teatro of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), she finished her studies in Theatre in the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina, in 2012. In 2014 she received thefinancial support “Stage Creators”, from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, FONCA.

As an actress she has worked with Romeo Castelucci, Pippo del Bono, Jorge A. Vargas, Mario Espinosa, Hugo Arrevillaga and Lydia Margules. She has appeared in several cinematographic exercises, has worked as an assistant director and collaborated as a production assistant for the Mexican theatre company: Teatro Línea de Sombra.

Currently she’s been admitted in the Universidad Nacional de Artes (UNA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to study a Master’s Degree in Theatre and Performatic Arts.
